Kawag Nature Lodge is situated in Kawag Forest, one of the many forests that form the vast expanse of Buffer Zone II for Danum Valley Conservation Area, in Lahad Datu district.
Lahad Datu is a small compact town and we are about 52 kilometres west of Lahad Datu Airport. It takes around 90minutes to reach the lodge and the drive is among lush greenery with occasional sightings of wildlife where deers, monkeys, wild cats, wild boars and even pygmy elephants use the same gravel road.
Getting Here
The fastest way to reach Lahad Datu is by air (50 minutes flight) from Kota Kinabalu but if you prefer not to fly in, another option would be by road via Sandakan or Tawau (about 7 hours’ drive, ≈ 402km).
